Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive hands-on healing technique, which uses energy to treat physical ailments without using pressure, manipulation or massage. It is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of the person – body, mind, emotions and spirit.
The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced “Ray Kee”) is often translated as “universal life-force energy”.
A Reiki treatment takes about one hour and is carried out with the client remaining fully clothed. The client lays on a therapy couch and blankets and pillows are provided. The treatment starts with the client lying on their back and the therapist gently places their hands on specific places on the body for a few minutes. Some clients experience feelings of heat or tingling as the Reiki flows through them. Usually the client feels very relaxed and peaceful as the Reiki energy flows through their body, and many clients drift off to sleep.
The Reiki energy goes where the body has imbalance, illness or dis-ease and activates the body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
