Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of massage that focuses on releasing the deeper my ofacial restrictions of the deeper muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body.
Deep Tissue Massage is also sometimes referred to as my of acial release or trigger point therapy, it is used by many massage therapists, physio-therapists and osteopaths. Deep Tissue Massage is a specific massage, which employs techniques to work below superficial connective tissue with the intent of breaking up old structural patterns and allowing a free flow of oxygen and nutrients to the blood.
The therapist uses movements to release chronic muscle tension through slow deep strokes, with pressure applied across the grain of the muscles. The therapist will detect restricted, stiff, knotted or painful areas and slowly work into these deep layers of muscle tissue.
A Deep Tissue Massage therapist works with their client to establish the main areas of discomfort. Deep Tissue Massage can also promote an emotional release during a session. The body holds onto emotions in the deeper layers of the body. When assessed, emotions are often released during the session or afterwards.
Deep Tissue Massage is aimed at everyone. Most people develop some negative postural habits. This is because of repetitive activities or mental and emotional influences on the body.
Many people have occupations that encourage repetitive postures such as drivers, desk workers and computer operators. This often promotes gradual development of muscular imbalance leading to pain and tension.
In addition those that work or are involved in leisure activities that require a high level of muscular output often accumulate residues of lactic acid in their muscles, leading to pain and stiffness.
All of these people would benefit from deep tissue massage treatments.
